Customer Reviews Awakening works for me I've read all in the series and Midnight Awakening is hands down a favorite. First and foremost, Elise is already clued into the breed world as she was a breedmate for years, so we don't have to skim our way through the perfunctory explanation, not to mention, the usual shock and doubt scenes that follow. That wears ... I suppose this is why I enjoyed Veil of Midnight, as well. Adrian nails it with Tegan's character. The frighteningly strong, aloof guy with the haunting past ... And although Adrian attempts this with all her male leads, something just works with Tegan. Elise is a fantastic counterpart: intelligent, self-assured, capable (minus her 'gift' situation), and beautiful. She has clout and a long history in the breed community, which is refreshing to read. I would also like to add that I LOVED the fact that she has short hair! Thank you Ms. Adrian for writing a beautiful character who isn't sporting the long flowing locks. Best one of the series! This is my most favorite one of all the Midnight Breed series - love the plot and the characters. A must read! Poorly done This is a junior high school version of a Jim Butcher or Ilona Andrews novel. The storyline could really use some polishing. Quite a disappointment. Best Midnight Breed Book!! This is without question the hottest book about the hottest warrior - Tegan!! At first I was concerned about Elise as she seemed boring from her mention in the previous book, but I quickly realized I was wrong. Elise was deep and tortured, very much like Tegan. Nothing compares to the sexual tension throughout the book....from the way that Tegan protects Elise....to his lust for her, all the while holding back from what he really wants...until he finally realizes his feelings. AMAZING - I could not put it down! I am a big Black Daggar fan and this book in the series finally compares to my BDB expectations. Great plot, action, love, lust, and so much more. Tegan is fierce and sexy - definitely the most dangerous and hottest warrior in the Breed! Highly recommend! Like a B-side of JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. Like a B-side of JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. This is the best and most accurate description of this series. I'm surprised Lara Adrian didn't get sued for copyright infringement. Book 1 was the least interesting of the series so it's lucky I took the chance and bought the first 4 books (only because of Amazon's buy 3 get one free deal)otherwise I might have missed out on being pleasantly surprised by books 2, 3, and 4. The stories get progressively better with each book because it changes more from a poor attempt at romance to romance with a little mystery or "who done it" thrown in, and the characters in books 2, 3, and 4 are more fully developed. If you have no read the BDB series and you can get thru book 1 and Lucan's character, I think you might enjoy this series. But if you have already read (and loved) the BDB series by JR Ward, I doubt you will honestly be able to give this any more than 3 stars max, even with the incentive of a buy 3 get one free book deal or feeling desperately in need of a filler while waiting for JR Ward's next BDB book.
